Cardiac Call at Park Creek
Amherst Fire dispatched an EMS run to Park Creek apartments at 408 Mill Street for an elderly female cardiac patient with trouble breathing and pain "going up." It is the village's most consequential medical call of the window.[1][2]
Bells Ring at the Methodist Church
An EMS call at Williamsville United Methodist Church on Main Street drew Amherst Fire just past mid-morning, with dispatcher Dean Holcroft repeating the address as crews routed in. Nature of complaint not specified on the air.[3]
Smoke Detection Stirs Eggertsville
A first-floor smoke detection on Eggert Road between Adrian Avenue and Rosedale touched off a fire alarm activation in Eggertsville. Fire crews investigated; no working fire was confirmed on the air.[4]
Natural Gas Order at 9 Delta Road
Amherst Fire requested a natural gas response to a Delta Road residence in the early afternoon. The dispatcher's repeat oddly tagged the address as "Charlotte, New Jersey," likely a Whisper transcription error rather than a routing mistake.[5][6]
Nurse Calls EMS to Amherst Middle School
An EMS call out of the Amherst Middle School nurse's office, between Berryman Drive and Washington Highway, was dispatched late in the window. Patient details were not broadcast on the channel.[7]
Children's Psychiatry Clinic — Adult Patient
North Bailey Fire and EMS were called to the Children's Psychiatry Clinic at 1404 Sweet Home Road for a 53-year-old female employee, between Runch and Chestnut Ridge roads.[8]
Echo Response Climbs to Mutual Aid
An Akron EMS Echo response — the highest acuity tier, indicating a life-threatening event — was dispatched to 67 Cedar Street, between Morgan Street and the Ice Cream Plaza. Twelve minutes later the channel showed an escalation: dispatch noted "I just had mutual aid for more manpower for an EMS call for a cardiac arrest" at the same address. Pattern is consistent with a sustained resuscitation effort.[9][10]
Pre-Dawn Domestic — "Boyfriend Physically Fighting"
An Amherst PD radio caller advised: "Your boyfriend is physically fighting. No weapons. Pause to stand up." Dispatch notes the history pulled from "apartment number two, but our complainant wasn't exactly sure which apartment when we asked." A vehicle exit was observed: "are outside now possibly getting into a vehicle." Cleared as a domestic later in the day.[11][12][13]
Cardiac Arrest at Oakbrook Drive
Pre-dawn EMS reported a 78-year-old male in cardiac arrest at 55 Oakbrook Drive, Apt. J, with "possible confirmation" — radio shorthand suggesting a downgrade may have followed.[14]
Overheard: The Wires
"There's No I in Fame"
"We've got to help each other out. We're in a hall of fame. There's no I in fame."
A BNIA paratransit driver thanks a colleague named Marvin for help, then offers it back: "Marvin, if you need any help with economy, just let me know, brother. I got you." The conversation peaks with what appears to be a heartfelt mid-shift maxim, accidentally minted on the simulcast: there is, in fact, no I in fame. Linguists may have notes.[15][16]
An Injured Goose Stops Traffic on Transit
"You can check on the injured goose in the roadway on target 8290 Transit," an Amherst PD voice radioed at dawn. The 8290 block of Transit sits at the Clarence/Newstead seam. No update on the goose's condition was broadcast. WNY drivers are encouraged to slow for waterfowl regardless.[17]
"Is Your Rat's Name Shumi?"
"Is your rat's name Shumi?"
An American Airlines ramp agent at BNIA, mid-shift small talk, posed the question of the day to a colleague over the gate radio. No follow-up on Shumi's pedigree, location, or vermin-classification status was broadcast. We'll keep listening.[18]
Grimsby Gas Crisis Grips Sharp Bus Line
A bewildered Sharp Bus Line driver in southern Ontario reported a stricken coach: "He says get another bus because he has no idea right now. We checked all the fuses and everything." Three hours later, on the same channel, the same crew lamented: "I'm at one quarter tank left and I've never filled up in Grimsey." A spirited tour of Ontario's Niagara fringe ensued. Dispatch later instructed: "Pull up to one of the bays when you get back to base, please." A cracked-up bus and a quarter tank — the small drama of bus life.[19][20][21]
"You're Supposed to Do a Post-Trip"
An NFTA Operations dispatcher delivered a withering on-air correction: "Hey, well, um, said you checked your bus. Obviously you didn't. You're supposed to do a post-trip." The driver's audible date-stamp protest — "Right, but the date, I'll…" — was not received. Reference to a "lost or somebody left behind" item suggests a passenger possession was the trigger. Class is in session on the Operations channel.[22][23]
Vehicle — and Dog — Taken Mid-Shopping Trip
A Buffalo Limo dispatcher relayed an alarming third-party report: a vehicle "with her dog inside was taken while she was shopping." Per dispatch, "Gallery security is checking the lot." The blotter never picked up the call on the police channels in this window — but the pup's status remains, on the radio at least, unresolved.[24]
Camel-Clad Subject Caught Larkinville Eyes
The Larkin Building's site security narrated an observation worthy of fashion week: "This white male wearing camel clothing." No suspicion threshold was articulated; the description, in its sartorial specificity, may have been more aesthetic than tactical.[25]
Tower Tech Doesn't Remember Climbing Near a SUNY
A Velex tower technician, evidently being asked to verify a job site, answered with mounting bewilderment: "I don't even remember being near a school near this, like a SUNY Erie something. And I'm like, I don't remember being near that. So, yeah." A career working at altitude does not always include an altitude of certainty.[26]
"I'm Doing Window Handles on 12, I Got 10 Rooms"
A status report from an Embassy Suites housekeeper, called in over the Embassy Control channel, painted a picture of late-morning maintenance at an Ontario property: window handles, twelfth floor, ten rooms in front of her. Pair this with a shuttle dispatcher requesting "a ride through our motor please" — the rest of the day was ordinary hotel-radio music.[27]
A Front Tire Sinks in Tonawanda
A Depew sanitation crew (working public works, on a school-district shared channel) reported a truck "off to a front tire sinking in" at 440 Northwood Drive in Tonawanda — "so it might have to be either pulled up or moved to a different spot." Earlier the same crew had been talking through a tricky access path — "drive over the canal" — that hinged on remembering "that pole, you know?" The morning's driveway diplomacy had texture.[28][29]
Regional Blotter
Smoke Reported Inside Glenwood Avenue Structure
Buffalo Fire Engine 343 was sent to 390 Glenwood Avenue (between Brooklyn and Storrs) for "smoke in the structure." A subsequent transmission noted ambient wires were "just telephone and cable wires," suggesting the fire was contained or unconfirmed. No working fire declared on the air.[30][31]
Male Stabbed in the Leg — PD Requested
"Report of a male stabbed in the leg. PD has been requested. You are to stage for police." Buffalo Fire/EMS held until BPD secured the scene; the address was not repeated on the air during this window.[32]
Manpower Call at South Lockport Fire Alarm
Niagara County Fire Control repeated an alarm activation at 5200 Murphy Road, between Campbell and the next cross-street, for South Lockport Fire — initially "no smoke or fire showing" per the homeowner, then escalated six minutes later with a manpower request. No working fire was declared, but the second page indicated more than a routine accidental.[33][34]
